When I have bought the coolers I didn't looked at the price... And No I didn't upgraded the PSU... It wasn't a power surge failure - it was overheating - this problem dissapeared after I have connected the 2 laptop fans - never faild since that moment...

          Re: DM800HD thermal problem

On the newer revision 800hd clones they have replaced the tiny heatsink and fan with a larger heatsink now which disperses the heat a ot better than the old design, Unfortunately some people have had a hard time fitting an internal drive due to the size of the new heat sink.

If you have the old type 800hd clone with fan a better heatsink and Thermal CPU paste from a computer supply shop would be a better option than an external fan

Mine whithout the two fans dies in less than an hour.
Mine is actually kept in a cabinet behind a glass door and has never given me any such issues nor does it have a fan.

In there also is my Media Player, 360 & Blurray player.

I guess you are right. I must just have been lucky & got mine from a decent batch.

                  Re: DM800HD thermal problem

Just a bit of info from my own setup, I used a graphics card heatsink Bought seperatly from a supplyer that sells watercooling systens for pc's (zalman are the manufacturers) the heatsinks are about an inch square and just stick on... (watercooling a dm800hd, now theres a thought......... Nah!!!! ) :-) and also an external laptop cooler for about £6 or £7.00, the type with the folding legs and two fans, romoved the legs as they are only held on with screws, and placed it over the top of the dm box drawing the air through it, as I have an internal hard drive which also generates a bit of heat, belt and braces and all that!
