    HD box looking to buy

I currently have a dm600 and I am looking to buy a reasonably priced box that will receive HD channels which my DM will not. Any recommends please. Not looking at paying a fortune but don't believe in buying cheapo rubbish.

The vu+ range are very good. But they don't come to cheap. What is your budget?

If I could find one that would move my dish 1.5m I would look around the £250 - £300 mark. At the moment I am using a Manhattan just to move the dish so this would enable me to get rid of a receiver and please the wife

Well for £300 pounds the vu+ solo2 is a gem. twin tuner, transcoding, 1300 mhz processor.........
Not entirely sure about moving a 1.5 meter dish though.
you'd need to do a bit of research on that.

          hi guys

I don't know if the Vu+ can move the dish, but I think not. A few months ago I installed a Vbox or gbox motor positioner between a 1,5m dish with actuator and a satbox. Works exellent, motor turns by just changing channel on the sat-remote control.

Thanks guys, I will take a good look at the VU+ range and perhaps look towards a new positioner, maybe a christmas gift!

              Hello thews34

              I also suggest you a vu+solo2.
I have this receiver and I must say that I'm very satisfied.
It's very stable, very fast, has transcoding, has very good support and Im sure that can move your dish without any problem.
If the money isn't a problem for you, go for it.

The DM800 is not a new powerhouse but it does the job and frankly the clones are pretty cheap. If you want to flick through channels super fast it might not be the receiver for you but if you don't wanna spend more than like 150 quid then happy days it's a perfect receiver. (I'm just guessing how much it is now, I bet it's a lot cheaper nowadays) VU+ is definitely the best option if you don't mind spending more money on it and you want something awesome.

Yes I am looking for a linux box having got used to using my DM600. I did think about looking towards a new DM800 or similar although they are quite expensive for a hobby and I thought that I had read somewhere that they had ceased trading though no sure.
Are the clones worth a look,as it is only a hobby??

Why do you suggest xtrend instead of vu+?

In my opinion, dreambox is not the brand to go for, original or clone.
Yes they were great receivers, and still are, but there is so much better out there now
My solo2 hasn't skipped a beat since I bought it nearly a year ago and is a brilliant bit of kit.
And I am also curious as to why sasho123 recommends xtrend over vu+?

well one reason could be that xtrend has a good price/quality ratio (for example when comparing vusolo2 mentioned here with let's say xtrend 4000 )

and if someone needs more affordable price with decent basic quality xtrend is one of the available good options .

vu models are very good but more expensive and for a simple user this can make a difference

because It has better PQ, lower price, same overall function

The OP said he has a budget of £250-£300, which is what the solo2 costs. So for his budget I'd say the solo2 is the best stb.
Nothing wrong with the PQ and In my opinion it is second only to the Duo2.

Xtrend 4000 is slower processor, single tuner, no transcoding, no gigabit lan............
