Which external DVD reader/burner with DM800HD

Can I put anykind of USB DVD reader/burner with a DM800HD PVR, or is there a recommended hardware ?

In addition, is it possible to burn over a DVD what has been recorded on HDD ?

I have ******d for that, but there aren't many info.

I would imagine any DVD reader/burner. it would be plug and play like USB Memory stick?
EDIT: If you give me some time, I have friend who's got USB DVD Burner. I will try it my dm800 and let you know.

This seems to work with me.
sony drive ad-7670s
Insert blank dvd ,Ive tried -rw and dvd ram [pioneer fan]
Menu- plugins
dvd burn
add (green button)
pop up menu- move curser to file ( don't click o.k)
Press green button (add )
Press lower right hand button on remote "record"
When asked to burn select "yes"
Move right curser to select after event i.e. go to standby.
Nibilosat 0.12 in flash

considering burning what you record :
the file is a .ts file, you won't burn a video DVD (it contains normally a vob file + menu and so on...), you'll burn a data DVD.
If you wand t video DVD, you'll have to convert the file and create a DVD : there are tutorials for that on the net. => but the interest of the DVD burner on the dbox is then totally null...

So, If you choose to directly burn the ts file then you'll be able to play it with programs like VLC or maybe is your dvd player able to decode .ts files, but few chances are...


EDIT : the sony drive ad-7670s seems to be internal...why do you want an external one?

Obviously external, dm800 is tiny and does not have room for internal DVD.
I know dm8000 is capable of having internal DVD.

I just tried a Hewlett Packard USB DVD Burner on my dm800 and it does not detect.

I dont think USB has enough bandwidth to handle BluRay.

Wow, if this is the case then my Box will simply be a pure Rolls royce !

I am really interested about that, so if any one succeded in such setup, with recommended Bluray external DVD, please let us know.

So to sumup, we would get:

- Timeshifting with HDD,
- Recording with HDD,
- Possibility to read standard DVD with menus ...
- Possibility to read blueray DVD with menus ...
- Possibility to Burn DVDs with .ts files

If that works, then I will simply throw away my current DVD player which is occupying room on my table TV.

Well, according to the sales person there, it should be a plug and play device, but for windows...as for the linux, he wasn't sure...

I have been doing some experiment with USB Memory Stick and DVD Video.

I copied a whole DVD Video to an USB Memory stick using DVD Decrypter, plugged the usb into my dreambox and went to DVD Player menu and it plays like a normal DVD without the DVD menus.

Will it play DivX or XviD if you copy it to an USB memory stick?
If it plays, than a USB is a much more cost-effective and more budget-effective for reading/burning alternative

It cant play divx or xvid, the hardware is not capable to play these files. it can play any h.264 file which better than xvid/divx.
