Is my Dream Box 800 hd PVR dead

my Dreambox 800hd PVR over heated and is almost dead apart from the ethernet led blinking there appears to be no life.
I tried holding the button at the front down and powering up but nothing any advice will be appreciated.

Have you tried to measure the voltage from the source? The problem can also cause power supply.
Is my post useful for you? Please press sigpic

Have you tried to rewrite the firmware from web interface, search the forum and you'll find the exact procedure.

Try a firmware that you are sure it worked

Could you open the box and take a picture (high res) of the mainboard?
There may be a problem on the capacitors.

have you a device to measure voltage?

I have opened the box up but can't see any thing burned or damaged it's bit cramped in there. I don't have anything to measure the voltage..
is there any where i can buy the power supply from?
Although the LED on the power supply is on.

I don't know how to do this?

nothing says it's the power supply which is dead...
if it's a clone it can be a transistor, or a bad lm255x or many things...

if you don't have tools to measure, you have nearly no chance to find the origin of the failure...

buying a power supply may help, or not...

You stated that your DB overheated, When?, How? Did it have a Fan? Can you give further info....

Now if I were you (since you don't have a multimeter - which is very handy to have - and doesn't cost much - with 20 - 25 Euros u can have a decent one) I would get a 12 volt Car bulb (side lamp) and try to light it up by connecting two wires from the plug of the powersupply (the plug that goes into the Dreambox)......connect one wire from the center hole and the other from around the outer connection of the Plug. If the lamp lights up properly it means that the 12 Volts output is ok and therefore it will be the Box itself which needs attending too. Yo have to start from somewhere.

This bulb test is ok - if there is no alternative component that is "escaping" from the power source - and you'll never see that with the bulb...and it will only give some partial info for the repairing. Better is a multimeter - buy one and then you'll get help from here or find a specialist to make the repair for you... But nobody asked one thing - is this device in guarantee? - even if is a clone - you'll get help for it..

before you buy any things, if you do not have tools to control it take it from someone who can control it, even by some of the old television technician, at least you'll know for sure the problem, although I think both the power supply

I agree you need some tools if you wanna try to repair..

on these clones, I've read that the problem is often due to : capacitors or transistors which are dead...
It's impossible to repair it if you have no tools..

Thank you for the many answers, it is a clone and it did have a fan. It been working for 12 months suddenly the picture went and the red light flashed on the box and made bleeping sound, it was really hot to the touch. switched it off and since then nothing.

How long have you left it switched off for before trying to switch it on again.
Might sound silly, but have you left it off for a day and see if it come back on?

Even though the lights on the read flash it dosn't mean it is getting any power.
DO the lights light up the other end (Router end) as well?

I have left it for couple of days and nothing. The only light is on the ethernet port. The power supply has the LED on other than that nothing. The Fan is also not working any more I believe.

Does it Bleep at all when you switch it on now?
                            Or just dead?

Have you tried removing the tuner card, and any other attachments you have?

Just had a quick ****** and saw if you remove the tuner card, can may be able to start the box without the tuner in there?
