if you don't know what a resistor or transistor looks like, don't own or use a mulitmeter than for your own sake, take it to a Radio,Tv repair man/oman and let them do the work..play with it an you could make it worse to the point of destroying your DM. Even static can write off the chips inside it-! so do yourself a favour and use the telephone book! it will be easier and cheaper in the long run..

If the Dbox was overheated, I believe the problem isn't the flash that is erased...

and to be able to flash it via JTAG , you need at minimum some components to have power...

Before trying anything, you need to check your hardware...

If it was that hot and just suddenly went then almost hundred percent that something (hardware fault) blew in the Box, because if it was that hot imagine how the Heat Sinks inside the Box were (these heat sinks transfer heat from that component (I.C. -Triac - thryistor - or whatever) to the heat sinks. So something definitely went kaput inside.
    Best to take for repair.

Yes the cloned DM are off bad quality, they are chinese. But if you see that the Power LED on the DM is lightning then the power supply must be ok. You should try to take a look at the capacitors. When they are not ok they are blown up on the upper sufrace. If that is the case then you can easily repair it if you have a soldering gun. If it is something else you will need a mesauring device (for example FLUKE) where you can meassure the voltage or the current of the particula electronical elements.

You should reconsidering buying a DM original from Germany, or just look at the ebay maybe you find a relaible Dbox 2 from Nokia, Phillips or Sagem. They are good quality and reliable. I have one that is 7 years old and still working.

I hope that I helped you.

Does it Bleep at all when you switch it on now?
    Or just dead?

Have you tried removing the tuner card, and any other attachments you have?

Just had a quick ****** and saw if you remove the tuner card, can may be able to start the box without the tuner in there?

I have left it for couple of days and nothing. The only light is on the ethernet port. The power supply has the LED on other than that nothing. The Fan is also not working any more I believe.

How long have you left it switched off for before trying to switch it on again.
Might sound silly, but have you left it off for a day and see if it come back on?

Even though the lights on the read flash it dosn't mean it is getting any power.
DO the lights light up the other end (Router end) as well?

I agree you need some tools if you wanna try to repair..

on these clones, I've read that the problem is often due to : capacitors or transistors which are dead...
It's impossible to repair it if you have no tools..

before you buy any things, if you do not have tools to control it take it from someone who can control it, even by some of the old television technician, at least you'll know for sure the problem, although I think both the power supply

This bulb test is ok - if there is no alternative component that is "escaping" from the power source - and you'll never see that with the bulb...and it will only give some partial info for the repairing. Better is a multimeter - buy one and then you'll get help from here or find a specialist to make the repair for you... But nobody asked one thing - is this device in guarantee? - even if is a clone - you'll get help for it..
