There is a rumor out there suggesting that in order to watch HD or 3D channel you will need a special expensive Box that is up to the job. And you need to be rich enough to go to the market and by a state of the art television that also supports HD and/or 3D.
Well, until now, this was the rumor, in this thread i'll tell you how to watch HD and 3D channels on your Dreambox 500s receiver and without TV. Yes, you read it right, without TV, because you're gonna watch them on your PC.
All you need to do is install the latest PLi image (I suggest the stable release - don't try the nightly build) and make sure your PC has the latest VLC player.
Open your browser and point to your dreambox webpage, select an HD or 3D channel and then select Video Capture from the Channel Info menu.
Your browser will attempt to download a .m3u file. Select open and browse to where vlc.exe is installed (Typically: C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe).
VLC will start and the HD or 3D channel will show, it is that simple
OK, now the bad news . First, you did not think that 3D will really work on your PC monitor, did you? see attachment below to see how 3D channels will show inside your VLC player, it is funny isn't it!
Second, the Dreambox 500s was kind enough to send the HD or 3D channel data to the PC for VLC to display. While this is easy and simple, it seems that the dreambox is unable to keep up with the huge amount of data being transmitted for HD and 3D channels, so you will notice every now and then that the HD or 3D channel freezes for a split second and then everything goes back to normal.
Enjoy!!
