Have you tried to delete it in Safe mode? or maybe go into Program files and see if you can delete the Exe file from there.

Try to disable (don't remember where) the image preview in file icon.
(I think you see the file like a pic taken from it).

I would load up cccleaner. Use it to wipe cookies and recently used docs. Check for viruses. Then use some kind of free file shredder

I had that problem a few times. I usually boot from hiren's cd and then use any file manager or live xp to delete it. Hiren's also contains a live linux for those who prefers it :).

i am afraid this your and your admin role do not have enough
privilege to remove it

this issue rises up frequently with the win kiddies pc ...

absolute solution:

live linux boot

mkdir /tmp/d1
sudo mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 /tmp/d1
sudo rm -v /path/to/file/aa.mkv

that's all folks :D

Re: Remove mkv file

The fact that you can't delete it in safe mode is very suspicious

Maybe you have a virus, or as @aplok said you don't have admin rights on your pc.

Do you find anything strange running in task manager when you are in safe mode?
Question:

Can't delete this MKV file

Answer:

1) Open command prompt

2) Go to the folder where the file is located (use command cd foldername to enter in to a folder and cd// to come out of a folder) and type del filename.mkv don’t press ENTER .

3) Open windows task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and go to processes tab and locate explorer.exe , right click on it od select end process (not end process tree). don’t close the task manager .

4) Go back to command prompt and press enter. Now the file is deleted.

5) Go to task manager again and select file>New Task and type explorer.exe and press ok .
I hope this helps

Re: Remove mkv file

You have to try some operations
1. Try to rename file to 1.mkv.
2. Make a directory "2" on disk c and move 1.mkv there.
3. Press win R - cmd - c: - enter cd 2 - enter - del 1.mkv - enter.

but, this rises up some questions ...

my understanding is that you can type instructions lines in a cmd prompt
as a script
and engage or queue or ( ... that is precisely the point i'am asking for) this speudo script process by task manager

Great, I need something like that, I'll try it.
I frequently have such problems on Win XP (mostly empty folders I can't delete) but usually I don't have to use live cd. Most of the time it just requires reboot and then it's deletable. But I would like something like this unlocker, I hope it'll work in my case.
My pc runs 24/7 and it's not always convenient for me to reboot, but if I don't delete it right away then I forget to do it on the next boot :)
