Try to disable (don't remember where) the image preview in file icon.
(I think you see the file like a pic taken from it).Comment

Re: Remove mkv file
I would load up cccleaner. Use it to wipe cookies and recently used docs. Check for viruses. Then use some kind of free file shredderComment

Re: Remove mkv file
i am afraid this your and your admin role do not have enough
privilege to remove it
this issue rises up frequently with the win kiddies pc ...
absolute solution:
live linux boot
mkdir /tmp/d1
sudo mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 /tmp/d1
sudo rm -v /path/to/file/aa.mkv
that's all folks :DComment

Re: Remove mkv file
The fact that you can't delete it in safe mode is very suspicious
Maybe you have a virus, or as @aplok said you don't have admin rights on your pc.
Do you find anything strange running in task manager when you are in safe mode?If You Like My Post..... Please Press the Thanks ButtonComment

zindox is nethertless engineered like this ...
especially, when copying file on external usb disk, from another pc (extern pc)
the file is written on behalf this external account
unknown from the home os
as a nasty consequence: insufficient privilege to clean it out ...

for file exchange, i have such a vfat transit zone, whitout privileges,
and whitout such problems
that makes it easy :DComment

Re: Remove mkv file
ok, I found a official solution from the microsoft community
Question:
Can't delete this MKV file
Answer:
1) Open command prompt
2) Go to the folder where the file is located (use command cd foldername to enter in to a folder and cd// to come out of a folder) and type del filename.mkv don’t press ENTER .
3) Open windows task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and go to processes tab and locate explorer.exe , right click on it od select end process (not end process tree). don’t close the task manager .
4) Go back to command prompt and press enter. Now the file is deleted.
5) Go to task manager again and select file>New Task and type explorer.exe and press ok .
thx kalpikos, great finding,
but, this rises up some questions ...
... assuming, still in the topic Remove mkv file
which extends itself to
how to delete protected files on indowns
...
1) Open command prompt
how our kiddies aversive adn is still able or not
to type characters in a dosbox
do they ever know what a command prompt is about ?
locate explorer.exe , right click on it od select end process (not end process tree). don’t close the task manager
what is od select end process (not end process tree) is about ?
thx

3) Open windows task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and go to processes tab and locate explorer.exe , right click on it od select end process (not end process tree). don’t close the task manager .
my understanding is that you can type instructions lines in a cmd prompt
as a script
and engage or queue or ( ... that is precisely the point i'am asking for) this speudo script process by task manager
4) Go back to command prompt and press enter. Now the file is deleted.
... without user-level checking ... ?
is'nt there any security breach (sulfuric) parfume ?
can anybody account remove protected files this way ?
can anybody account remove protected system files this way ?
5) Go to task manager again and select file>New Task and type explorer.exe and press ok .
what is the purpose of this command ?

Re: Remove mkv file
I have tried every windows command possible and no luck so i have found a small program called unlocker v 1.9.2 it deleted the mkv file straight away there is also a option to rename the file as well if neededComment

Re: Remove mkv file
Great, I need something like that, I'll try it.
I frequently have such problems on Win XP (mostly empty folders I can't delete) but usually I don't have to use live cd. Most of the time it just requires reboot and then it's deletable. But I would like something like this unlocker, I hope it'll work in my case.
My pc runs 24/7 and it's not always convenient for me to reboot, but if I don't delete it right away then I forget to do it on the next boot :)Comment
