Best Free Anti-Virus Software?

Hi, I'd be interested in your views on what is the best free anti-virus software. I've tried AVG and Avast and still managed to get infected, so am thinking of trying Comodo? Any views?

I've never had any problems with AVG.

Avira Antivir is supposed to be very good although not tried it myself.

I used avast free antivirus but not satisfied with it and now i am using ESET Smart Security.

Hi,

Nobody said nothing about Kaspersky Internet Security 2010... it's working for me and my pc never got infected... Only thing that the KIS2011 version has some problems with the older computers..

No I was talking about ESET Smart Security....I tried Avast and still got a virus with it installed.

avira free antivirus is one of the best free ones. Avast has free one to (you need to register but it's free edition). AVG is another one.
All 3 have paid version to.

I found over time that the free editions are good for telling you that a virus is ON your computer, but its not very good for actually removing it. If a virus that is powerful gets on, there is no way of stopping it with a free one usually, and I have tried many. However, ever since I got a mcafee subscription, I have not had a problem and it has blocked a few virus' from entering my system already. I wonder if its a deliberate ploy by the companies to make you buy their products.

The best security from viruses and web threat are win7, and his defender,
nothing can get in, not even the network made by your self :)
