I use Spybot - Search & Destroy as an extra precaution, it's free just google it

Yeah I use that also but it is for malware protection not anti-virus.....so looks like for free I've tried the best already with AVG and Avast? Has nobody tried Comodo as that is free?

I have a pc and a mac side by side. [I]free[/I] antivrus [I]software[/I] mentioned here is on my pc. Not one single [I]antivirus[/I] program on my mac.

Well that is one advantage of a Mac (or Linux) as they are not really targeted by viruses.

I have tried different antivirus programs an has becom infected with all except with AVG. I have used it for more than a year now and have not had any problems since I installed it. The only negative is that it starts scanning every day, I think that is unnecessary.

There is definately an option to switch off or reschedule the daily scans. I don't remember exactly how because I had it a long time ago, but look into scan options and it is somewhere there.

Yes look in options, you can change settings to manuel scan. I've used avg free edition in the past, personnaly avira is top of the bill.

With the 2011 edition this can be changed by going to Tools->Advanced Settings->Schedules->Scheduled Scans

Lots of options to change it to whatever you want, or no scheduled scans and just do it regularly at your leisure.

i guess its kaspersky but for the free edition is i guess the best thing avg or nod 32 not avira and avast is the worst one
