    Sky UK cardsharing to end...?

i dont know if theres any truth in this its from another forum....

sky have confirmed a few things

    1. They are to introduce chipset pairing on their recievers
    2. Their plan is to scrap most premium Standard Definition channels in favour of HD
    3. They plan to upgrade customers SD boxes to HD boxes

    What does that mean ?

It means when they are ready their HD channels won't be able to be shared like they currently are.
It also means when that happens and existing SD channels are converted to HD there will be very little premium channels to share presuming you can still read the card.

    When will this happen ?

Only sky know the answer to that but sources say they will start in early 2013

How long do we have left sharing our cards ?

No one knows for sure but when we do know we will post here

      Don't panic!
The providers are a bit angry about cardsharing and started tests for measures against it. I think there will be found methods for extracting the necessary cw very soon. And if this is done, the sharing will continue.

I think this may be a bit of an overreaction. By the time they have put all their SD channels onto HD, issued everybody with new boxes (surely they wont be able to switch off without making sure everyone of their customers is sorted) someone will have cracked it. Also Sky will have to stop charging £10 pm for HD because not all of their customers want it. I cancelled it for one and know lots of people that have.

This will take a long time to implement and at a considerable expense to sky.
I think they might start by pairing hd channels to the receivers and then go from there.
Dropping the £10 monthly charge and upgrading all there customers to hd boxes would be a costly exercise.

I for one do not believe SLY will fore go the £10.25 monthly cost of
HD also the number of boxes they would have to replace would hit
            their profits once again.
The upgrade cost for existing customer who does not want to
subscribe to HD is £199 + £60 installation cost if you have
someone come and fit it and I believe the number of people not signed
up to HD already would bankrupt SLY if they were to upgrade them for
            free (about six million).

            TV customers 10,308,000
            Sky + HD customers 4,468,000

I reckon it would take at least a couple of years to roll the whole thing out if that's their plans.
I think we're safe for now.

Even if they manage it to lock up their system in a closed box it will be opened very soon. You need to listen the communication in the descrabling operation and it goes on. Or they change the complete system of encryption, but this means a huge expenditure. I don't believe that this will happen.

Which forum oz, if you don't mind me asking? I'd like to have a read up on it.
I did a ****** search a few days ago as I'd heard the rumours, but didn't get any hits of interest.

I think you would be surprised how many people no longer use SD boxes with free upgrades to HD why would you stay with a SD box i had my HD box for 12 months then cancelled the HD sub so i think they could implement changes in a short time if they wanted

If it's even two thirds of subscribers that have hd boxes that'd leave 3 and a half million still to upgrade.
Add multiroom subscribers to that and you could have 5 million boxes to upgrade.
Production time of these alone would take ages.
I know a number of people that have the hd box in the living room and an old sly+ box upstairs.

From my post before the figure is about 6 million that have not got HD
although I am sure that some in that figure are ones that cancelled HD
subscription but on principle why would anyone pay to watch HD when
you already paid for the technology (tv,Hd box) and if others think in a
similar vein they will not pay for years subscription just to get HD box.
