    VU+ solo2 with XMBC (Kodi) and Add-on

I used a USB to install a 2.8 mb add-on zip file on my VU+ solo2 with Black Hole Vu+ Solo2 2.1.7 image installed (XMBC).
After a couple of days the USB stopped responding and I found it unreadable using a pc.
I tried to reinstalled the same add-on with a new USB……same issue, I immediately lost the second USB. Now I am afraid to try another USB or use that particular USB port.
I uploaded the file directly unto my receiver with telnet and my receiver crashed after a few days.
Now I am on Black Hole 3.0.2.C and I am afraid to install any add-on by zip file.
Is my USB port gone? How can I know if it's gone?
Will flashexpander or any other enigma2 add-on/plugin help?
    Any advice is welcome. Thanks

Re: VU+ solo2 with XMBC (Kodi) and Add-on

    Hi rasanansa

The fact that kodi plugin made your box unstable and finaly crashed.... I would say it's normal
...and I can say that because I also tried some months ago a kodi plugin and my box become unstable with green screens etc.

I think that this type of plugins can easily cause problems with hanging, crashing, green screens etc because contain video codecs which can't run normally to each box separately over different images.

I continue with the plugin and how you send it to your box..

Why you use usb stick in order to install a plugin?

You can install it directly through downloads (deppenting on the image), by using the TSpanel or even send it to your box through DCC (from your PC).

Maybe the plugin you are using its not correctly for your receiver.
Are you sure that you use the correct file?

    As about the usb port...

Did you try to connect to your box a usb stick with videos written on your pc?
    What is happened?
    Can you see the content?
    Can you play them?

Can you format the usb stick on your pc?
If yes, format it to fat32.
If no, there are special tools that can fix or repair your stick.
Try a search on the net and I'm sure that you can find something.

    I hope helped you.

Re: VU+ solo2 with XMBC (Kodi) and Add-on

Ok, I hope I am not sanctioned or banned for further explaining what happened to me.
At the time of my problems, I had Black Hole Vu+ Solo2 2.1.7 installed on my VU+ solo2.
The plugin that I installed is "_plugin.video.streamondemand" in zip format.
I copied the plugin unto the USB stick, inserted it (permanently) behind the VU+ solo2 and installed the plugin as follows:
      System-> Settings-> Add-on-> Install from a zip file
The plugin worked perfectly for about 10 days, after which xmbc (kodi) suddenly will not start.
I pulled out the stick out (which was continuously blinking) and xmbc started working again.
Instinctively, I tried to copy the plugin back onto the stick, but the pc would not even recognise the stick. I copied the plugin onto a new USB stick, inserted it into the same port and the it also instantly started blinking. I inserted the new stick into the pc and it was also dead.
So now I have 2 unusable USB sticks and I am afraid to put another stick into that particular port.
I uploaded the plugin directly onto my receiver with telnet and my receiver totally crashed after 2 days.
Now I am on Black Hole 3.0.2.C and I am afraid to install any plugin or install a stick into that particular port.
Question…......…is the port dead? How can I know if the port is ok.
Can you send me a PM on which special tool to use to fix my stick?
      Thanks in advance.

Re: VU+ solo2 with XMBC (Kodi) and Add-on

First of all, we have to find a way to fix the unrecognized usb drives.

You can try a free tool into the windows

        "Disk Management"

        - Insert the usb drive to your pc
        - Right click on "my computer" and select "Management"
        - From section "storage" select "Disk Management"
        - In most cases, there is a drive without letter that is similar to your usb drive
        - Right click on it and select to change the letter of the drive
        - When you finished, go back to your computer and you will see your missing usb drive

I hope this method will work for you.

Re: VU+ solo2 with XMBC (Kodi) and Add-on

Thanks to all for your advice. I have tired various software but the usb sticks remain unusable.
The sticks are recognised as follows:
            - in windows - 0 frees pace and 0 used space
            - in dos - the system cannot recognise the drive indicated
Somehow, I am not very worried about the sticks for now.
My prime aim is to be able to install the streamondemand plugin.
            1. My main worry is how can I tell is if the particular port used in precedence is not damaged? I am afraid to insert another usb into that very port.
            2. Given the size of the plugin (2.8 mb), is there any way I can install this plugin without a usb stick? Say with flashexpander or any other enigma 2 plugin?
            Thanks.

              Hi rasanansa

As I wrote above, you don't need the usb port to install the plugin.
You can use DCC from your PC.

You can select to install it from Tools--> packages --> upload package

              or you can use telnet:

              put the file in :
              /var/tmp

              in telnet, give this :
              opkg install -force-overwrite /tmp/*.ipk

              reboot enigma2

Re: VU+ solo2 with XMBC (Kodi) and Add-on

                Hi Kalpikos,
I have installed _plugin.video.streamondemand 3 times in /var/tmp, but my VU+ solo2 has always crashed soon after.
When I installed it through the usb stick (the file remains on the stick) it worked for quite some time before I had problems with the usb port.
So I guess that the 2.8 mb size of the plugin is too big for the memory of the receiver.
On the other hand, I am not too sure of the usb port that has destroyed 2 sticks at a go.
I dare not destroy another port, the only one left for my DTT.
That is why I am asking if _flashexpander or any other enigma2 plugin may be a solution.
                Any suggestions are welcome.

Although this doesn't help you with the USB problem, the best way to get kodi on a solo2 is to install the latest openvix image and then install "vuplus-kodi" from the plugins.
