Solo2 no ftp

Can anyone help with this?

I've been using Vucc and filezilla to ftp to the Solo2.
Everything working fine.

Couple of days ago vucc started reporting an access violation and ftp wont connect either.

I can connect to the box via webif and telnet.

Short of reflashing and staring from scratch (its taken me ages as a newbie to get the image going right) what can I do?

Solo 2 is a fantastic box btw...

Try dreambox control centre. I had problems using vucc as well, but none with dcc.

Cheers mate...I had a go with DCC but same access violation message meaning its the type of communication with the box that's screwed. I'm guessing hidden in a script somewhere is a line that says ftp/no-ftp or something but I know nowhere near enough to say.
DCC is a nice programme though...I like the simplicity of VUCC but you can do more with DCC.

Also tried to get things going from a different pc. Same story.

disable the firewall if it is active. otherwise try to temporarily disable your antivirus, it is definitely one of them to block access

Thanks Eddi, tried that already...

got this message: "500 OOPS: vsftpd: refusing to run with writable root inside chroot()"

makes me think there's a problem with permissions running a nested loop maybe?

like I say I'm a noob with enigma and linux so don't know enough but if I could find a way to check permissions on the box might that help?

Do you have a backup you can stick back on your solo2? Can you access via telnet?

Did you update recently your system ?
Your problem seems to be that your users root directory has write access, which isn’t allowed when using chroot restrictions in the new update.

You can fix your problem just adding the following two lines to /etc/vsftpd.conf :

allow_writeable_chroot=YES
seccomp_sandbox=NO

Check if you enter the same IP address of your box, you can find it in the menu System / Network

Yes. It is something to do with vsftpd.conf

The easiest thing would be to ftp to the box and amend the vsftpd.conf file BUT of course I can't ftp. I've been trying to use telnet instead withou really knowing what I'm doing.

Remember, Im a complete enigma/linux noob but I've tried editing the file to allow anonymous ftp with a slight change to the outcome...it was a lesson itself trying to work out what to do...(I find windows easy to manipulate but Linux!)

now I get a message saying:
"500 OOPS: vsftpd: cannot locate user specified in 'ftp_username':ftp"

but I can't find a reference to ftp_username in the vsftpd.conf file.
Any ideas anyone?

{Im telnet-ing to the box, using putty. then using VI to edit vsftpd.conf then I to edit; esc to finish and wq to save. Hope this is the correct procedure}

Also try WinSCP. be sure your had the correct ip cause they sometimes change after restarting the box or router.

Yeah thanks kostis, I can reach the box via telnet so IP is ok.
I think now FTP is blocked by the vsftpd.conf...

Ended up having to reflash (as suggested) but all working well now...
