@rallymad

Are you sure that the mgcamd is working?
Did you test it with other line?

If you can't find a solution to your problem, I suggest you to flash your box with a new image more friendly, as the OpenPli.
Then go to downloads from the OpenPli server and install a new version of mgcamd.
I agree with kalpikos, try with another new image flashing your receiver.
Best regards.

As you said the openpli image is very friendly for any newbie user.
Openpli has its own download server from where you can download and install what you want and you need.
Don't hasitate for your decision.
Openpli is one one of the best image.
... how do I do the following ...
hi, let's try to make it clear,

0.- your pc (or satbox) send messages to the server,
via internet,
and via your modem, and intermediate big routers of internet providers

your modem is in fact a modem/router, as he has
- a modem : to translate the signal
- a router : to bridge the local network, to the remote server network

mypc
|
internet service provider
|
big router
|
cloud
|
big router
|
internet service provider
|
server

1.- the first basic connectivity test between a pc and a server is
what is it called a ping , ie send a basic msg to the server,
and wait to the response from the server

it is common first connectivity test

2.- how to do this ?
just open a command box an type telnet satbox ip :
- dos command for win downs,
- or console for linux
- or a remote console onto your satbox via what it is called telnet

DESCRIPTION
The telnet command is used for interactive communication with another host using the TELNET protocol.
It begins in command mode, where it prints a telnet prompt ("telnet> ").

$ telnet 10.0.0.1

Trying 10.0.0.1...
Connected to dboxip.
Escape character is '^]'.

welcome on your dreambox!

dreambox login:
root

Password:
mysecret

root@dreambox:/var/etc>

from there you've got full power onto the your satvbox,
with respect of the linux world rules

there are plenty of command to do what ever you want with a computer

this is the advantage of the open operating system like linux:

3.- from there you can test the connectivity from your satbox to the cam server
with ping command a few seconds, than ctrl-C to stop it :

root@dreambox:/var/etc> ping www.cam.org

PING ben-mos.zapto.org (2.1.1.1): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 2.1.1.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=53 time=88.5 ms
64 bytes from 2.1.1.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=53 time=88.3 ms
...
2 packets transmitted, 2 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 88.3/88.4/88.5 ms

this is success : 0% packet loss

if not success, you've got something like this: 100% packet los

root@dreambox:/var/etc> ping 10.0.0.222
PING 10.0.0.222 (10.0.0.222): 56 data bytes

--- 10.0.0.222 ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet los

4.- ok, now you can test your connectivity with the ping test !
from the satbox itself, to the cam server,
on wich ( the satbox) you open a command line session
via telnet
from your pc
with console, or dos command

:)
