    hard drive format

hey getting a new 2tb hard drive for my duo tomorrow and want to know what is the best format for it. i have my current one formated to fat32 but it can't record much hd material as fat32 got a 4g file size limit. i need a format that is user friendy for a mac as i will be transferring files from my mac thru ftp. not sure if that makes a difference.

    thanks

    Re: hard drive format

I've always just stuck them straight in the stb and initialised and mounted them with no problems. Never been limited to file size either.

is the 2tb drive to big for it to recognize??

I have read of incompatibilty issues with hdd larger than 1 tb, but not sure if some are ok.
Have you tried formatting it on your pc as described in post 4?

If you could get hold of a caddy wnd hook it up that way? Really not sure if it'll help though, but you can try.
What make is the hard drive? There is a list somewhere of incompatible hdd with vu+ duo.

                      Re: hard drive format

You can format the hard drive using a Mac to fat32 :

Disk Utility is an application. It's in a folder called "Utilities" in the "Applications" folder on your computer's hard drive. You can get to it quickly by clicking on the spotlight icon (the magnifying glass) in the upper right corner of your screen, and typing "disk utility."

Once in disk utility, select your external drive in the list on the left of the Disk Utility window, and click "erase". Select FAT32 as your file format, name the volume, and click the "erase" option.

But because of the error you are getting the problem might be a compatibility issue, do a little research to make sure, try partitioning it to show that your main partition is a smaller size see if that makes a difference.
