    First Dual Tuner

    Hi,

So looking at my first dual tuner box, looking at this one here:-

    hxxp://www.nextbay.biz/vu-duo-hd-set-top-box-stock-on-sale-freeshipping_p19.html

Is this a clone and if so whats the downside to me getting this over a more expensive original box?

    Re: First Dual Tuner

    hi mbro and welcome

Could be a clone when I look at the price

    See some more here: _http://www.satlover.eu/forum/vu-duo/43373-vu-original-or-clone.html
    and _http://www.satlover.eu/forum/vu-duo/45256-vu-duo-clone-v3-security-board-update-available.html and _http://www.satlover.eu/forum/vu-duo/44232-vu-duo-is-randomly-rebooting.html

So best to search for yourself, I found some info once about comparison between original and clones (physically viewable), but can't find it, don't even know where and when I saw this.

I'd stay away from clones if I were you, I'm speaking from experience. Psu problems and can't use the latest images on them. You can get an original from Germany for about £230.

        Re: First Dual Tuner

You would be crazy to spend £230 on a Duo now especially seeing as the solo2 has hit the streets, i would imagine secondhand these shortly will be less than the price of a clone

If I can't wait for Solo2 i would definitely go for Uno. Newer technology than Duo and almost similar price or cheaper.

the site mentioned are clones but they have a good reputation - generally clones suffer from poor PSU's - ask what images they will accept

There was a previous thread, which seems to have been deleted, where I advised the op to go for the solo2. It's only 30 or 40 euro more than the duo, so I know I would.

                  hi sossenheim-ffm

that's very difficult to say ...
what's your budget (clone or original)? do you know linux, do you have friends with one of the boxes you want?

Lots of questions only you can anwser to - I suggest you do some reading in the VU+ and DB sections (lots of members are pro DB, lots of members are pro VU+ and lots of members recommend other brands ...)

If you're not very familiar with linux and sat in general, I believe best to buy something and somewhere you have service and support in case something's not clear or in case of questions.

                  Good luck anyway.

                      hi again sossenheim-ffm

I think the choice is entirely up to you.

Honoustly, I have neither of them, so can only say what I know from some friends and (also other) forums. My impression (sorry @the VU+ guys) is that I've read a bit better reactions on the db's (originals), surely if the money isn't the problem. They seem to be better 'futureproof' also.

Again, only my personal and theoretical idea.

I suggest you do some reading and comparison between the both of them (here + google).
