Original vu+ solo or a dm800se are top receivers at around that price.
if he wanted a twin tuner the vu+ duo is the obvious choice.
Both receivers have excellent support and are very highly regarded.

Dm800se is about £150. Vu+ solo slightly more at about £180.
probably get the solo for a bit less from germany
But remember, the dm800 is a clone whereas the vu+ solo would be original.
Clone receivers can be tricky for newbies as loading wrong image can brick the box.
I've also seen the amiko aliens. Not a bad price at £150 for a twin tuner, but not much in the way of support........... yet.

Also worth mentioning the gigablue 800 which seems like a very good budget alternative to clones.
It does have a painfully slow boot time though. But other than that it seems like a great receiver.

had a look at the alien box, looks okay but ltd reviews, afraid of what bokkie mentioned in regards to its limitation on support! but eb*y priced at £100..so priced well indeed!

Please note though there is a whole section on the Amiko HD on this site and there is a website dedicated to Spark boxes at h**p://sparkfans.net

My advice stay well clear of the Amiko Alien until they get Linux Enigma2 fully functional on it at present its as buggy as hell from all accounts.

For a fixed dish and if you dont mind an external hard drive the the Skybox F3 for £50 aint half bad.

Not sure what you mean digicon can you not use cccam on Spark. Why does it have to be Enigma2? I presumed you could add clines using Spark. Will have to rethink if this is the case. I am aware that Spark takes longer to boot but i am not bothered about that so long as it works on the two birds that i am pointing at when it is running. What is the difference?

Sorry mate you are correct spark closed firmware runs normal but it appears that the Enigma2 side is having problems, And these are at the moment being hailed as the cheapest Linux Enigma2 receiver.

Ah ok got you. I did look at these running on ebay and they looked very impressive. I think that they seem to be improving daily with the enigma 2 side as well. I did look on the Sparkfans forum and there seems to be regular E2 updates also.
