Why do all my diseq switches die?

I just realized another port died on one of my diseq switches, I've got two. Port2 died on the first switch months ago, today port 4 died on my other switch. It's really annoying I'm gonna have to replace them both. Were they really that crappy or something is really killing them?

Check the ground connection of your box.

          Try this test:

Unplug the coax dish cable from the box, keep the connector in one hand and with the other hand touch the connector on the box....

If we won't get a reply in 3 days means....

Seriously use a tester and check from the cable (disconnected) to the box do you have tension/current ? in this case is you ground connection which is not good at home.

There is no ground connection on most of boxes, I've around 10 from old and new boxes and just one of those has the ground connection on main plug an old Echostar LT8700 (analogic receiver). I don't know what box you have Faccione with ground plug. Let me know it I'm curios.

Re: Why do all my diseq switches die?

Probably I've expressed my concerns in an incomplete way.
The missing ground can be collected via other means, like SCART or HDMI or A/V connectors, from the TV or the ROUTER.
The box isn't connected to the dish only.

One of my boxes (DM500 clone) if I touch the antenna cable disconnected from the box and the box itself, I get my hairstyle like Einstein.

Re: Why do all my diseq switches die?

Ah ok I understand now, I've same result if i touch my sat cable and receiver when are disconnected, it happens because dish is grounded and receiver has no ground into main plug. This don't causes problem for a simply reason, when you connect the dish to receiver it will be grounded so, in facts you feel no power if you touch it, the power chooses ever the short and easy way to reach the ground. Anyway it is not dangerous power for your health, if you wanna solve this fix a conductor on a box screw and change the box plug with one with 3 contacts connecting the central to this cable so you'll not feel power when touch it also with dish disconnected.
Coming back to Resident problem I don't think is this the reason his switch has broken, is more common rain has gone into switch and created a short circuit, or also can be the switch was not a good quality.
When you'll install the new switch try to protect it with tape Scotch 23, so to avoid water will flow inside.

Re: Why do all my diseq switches die?

Well, both my diseq switches are protected from rain or any kinda of weather. Unless it starts raining from the ground up, I won't have any problems with it. Even then, it gotta get through the balcony floor first... I don't think it's weather related. All the other ports are fine but port4 died on one of them and port2 on the other one. One of the goes downstairs to a strong receiver and the other goes upstairs to my skystar2. I switched cable, lnb (first i thought my lnb died...) and nothing changes, no signal at all.

My 2/1 disqec one port die when ProgDVB crash, and other port still works and I "test" this other port, I conect it and disconect 5 or 6 times and this second port die also, all in 1 or 2 hour. But it was old about 4 year.

Try to buy a good switch like Spaun it is more expensive then others but I've never replaced one in my installations.

Both the diseq switch are around 4yrs old. Prolly I'm gonna have to buy new ones as soon as I get a dreambox. Then I'll have to wire the whole house again...
