    Wifi Home Plug

    Hi,
Soon it's the hollidays, and as i will have a modem avaible in the appartement just bellow where i'll be, i would like to connect my stb and other stuff thru Wifi between the appartment bellow me to the appartmente where i'll be.

Last year i did take home plugs who work on Electric Wire for transport Internet signal , but it didn't work at all, i guess because it is not the same power counter.

I would like to know if wifi home plugs do work well ?
    What's the real Range ?

    Thank's

    Re: WIFI Home Plug

Why not using WiFi, it should be fine to transmit through the floor, and you can also use wifi repeaters if needed to boost signal.

If it on the same electrical counter as you put it, it will works well if you are in a different
appartment then it will not as you have already found out beacause it is on a different
counter, for what you want to do I would reccomend a wifi booster or wifi repeater.

The range depends on the type of wifi (150N, 300N), bigger is better.
There are also wifi extender, if the house is very large and with a wifi does not cover (cost little).

I suggest you use a wireless bridge, connect your stb to it using a an ethernet cable if possible. That way you can boost the range of the wifi from below.

            hi cgac99

As I've said sometimes before, I really find cable is the best solution, but most probably it won't be possible and allowed to drill a little hole, isn't it?

            btw see here: http://www.satlover.eu/forum/satelli...tml#post279346

if you can not use the cable, there are wifi to wifi devices (search wifi bridge or wifi extender in ebay)

A friend of mine has done a lot o work with the radio signals and an active member of a radio society. According to him Home plugs conflict with a band of Radio frequency and they discourage them in a similar way they discourage microwave ovens.

BTW , do you know what is the frequency that wifi plugs use for comunicate between them ?

It is not the same thing, the microwave is an oscillator. I read that the power line of tplink work, but I don't trust.
@cgac the frequency is not problem, because this Device (if are good settings) are autocontrolled

                      Re: Wifi Home Plug

Looking closely to Wifi Home Plugs specs i see that all that i found work on the system of transmit from the modem to a Plug thru an ethernet cable, then thru the power wire of home then the 2nd plug will distribute signal.... that's not what i'am looking for as i'am not on same counter.

So , i guess that as someone said here, i need to make a bridge with a Wifi Repeater.
As i'am am a newbie with it, how does it work ?
I just have to go to my appartement , look at the networks avaible, choose one, and then the wifi repeater will repeat the signal just like that , or do i need to perform it another way for repeat the signal that i want to use ?

that's right, the wifi bridge reads the parent network and repeats the signal. of course, the wifi bridge is to be placed where even takes his mother.

If the signal problem, it is possible to connect an external panel antenna.

All these tricks with antennas of Pringles or everything you can imagine , for stronger signal and better reception..... of course, don't work.
I have never heard for someone than have done succesfully any of these tricks.
On the other hand, there are very good antennas for wi-fi as the omni-directional antennas, that truely can increase the signal and the quality of the reception with low cost.
