Often you can pick up a second hand dish for half the price, with absolutely no difference to signal quality, etc.
Fixings must be new for safety and security Lnb and motor are better new as you don't really know what condition a secondhand one would be in, or how old they are.

      hi

I agree with bokkie and microchick: dish (normal, round) can be second hand without problems (just check it visiually if it has no faults or cracks) - just in case of one of those multisat or bigsat dishes I'd be more carefull to buy secondhand.

does anyone know if you can use a normal indoor battery powered drill to drill outside to fit satellite dish on the outside wall?

          hi Bazinga

Possible yes, but will mainly depend on some things as: voltage of your drilling machine, diameter of the drill, thinckness of your wall, material of the wall (bricks/concrete/concrete+steel) ... Perhaps with some recharging, why don't you try it out?

I think you rather need a real drill instead of one of those electrical screwdrivers

If it is a domestic quality drill you will probably burn it out before you get the job done. Also the chuck size may not be wide enough to take the drill bit necessary for the job, you also would normally need to use a 12 inch or longer bit to get through the wall and these put a lot of strain on any drill, think about hiring a professional drill if you need portability.

I don't know if its good idea to get a proffesional satellite fitter to install my motorised dish, bare in mind that CS is illegal in UK, and I fear that the satellite installer might report me.

The only thing thats stopping me to self install is my fear of heights.

I don't see how a professional fitter would know you intended to cs unless you told him.As to fear of heights, does the dish need to be high ? ten feet won't affect your signal !

I was not suggesting that you should, I said " think about hiring a professional Drill". I doubt if any installer would be worried about how you propose to use your system, how would he know your intentions unless you tell him and there are plenty of people using valid subscription cards for all kinds of channels.
Fear of heights is a difficult one but should you attempt it make sure you use the proper type of ladder and secure it properly, working at heights with power tools is not for everybody. All in all getting it done professionally might be your best bet.

I reckon, from the sounds of things, you should get an installer or friend to do the job for you. If you have a fear of heights qnd the dish needs to be installed high up, it's just not worth the risk. Unless you can find somewhere lower down for the installation.

I saw a satellite dish installed by the house in a special concrete foundation plus the metal bracket and the motor, it was a long time, but as an option for those who are afraid of heights
