    Quietest dish motor?

    Hi all
Just want to know if anyone can tell me what the quietest dish motor is?
I am going to have the dish put on the external wall of my bedroom, so don't want to wake up the missus every time I change sats.
I've heard the nylon gears are quieter, but also weaker.
    Any thoughts?

mines a tech-no-mate 2300super, nylon gear, still noisey, so if you can mount your dish on a polar mount, ground level, i put mine away from house, still have viewable sats 45east-30west.
    come on the tigers.

      Stab 100 or 120
I have had the stab 120 (1.2 meters) for 12 years....no problem what so ever.
      only problem is its speed.
its slow because it holds up to a 1.2meter dish

        I'll only have about a 90cm, so that shouldn't be a problem.
Is the noise enough to hear through a wall?
Will it wake the missus up?

cant comment on that, is she a light sleeper? only said about mounting on ground is that if you got motor an strong winds then dish movement go outer line a lot of hassle to re-line motor/dish, mine even move last strong winds, took me quite a while to re-line, glad i werent up ladders messing with 120cm steel dish, in winter!

Unfortunately I don't have that option. It'll have to go on the wall next to our bedroom. We have a conservatory on the back and the Front of the house faces north.
I'm also trying to hide the dish on the roof so it's not visible from the ground level.
At least it'll be a bit sheltered up there as well.

                Re: Quietest dish motor?

Is the metal gears or nylon the best option. I know metal gears are stronger, but as far as quietness goes?

The Superior or Supreme LED Darkmotor all metal gear is the quietest motor i have ever used. It also has the widest ARC spread out of all the Diseqc motors currently available.

Thanks Digican, I'll keep that in mind. Doesn't one of those 2 have a digital readout on the motor?

The Supreme LED says it all in the name really has the LED but to be perfectly honest i install the Superior as it is identical apart from the LED and of course it works out about £10 cheaper.

                        Re: Quietest dish motor?

Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for the supreme dark motor metal gear.
I just thought that the nylon gears would be quieter.
Are there any noise deadening measures that can be taken as well?

from what i read and on most motors the factory preset hardware limits are from 70east-70west, plenty range there, also the dark motors f-conecters can be fiddley to fit.
if you fitting yourself most important to have perfect pole alignment.

No I'm not fitting myself, getting an installer. Just want to make sure I can get the motor as silent as possible. It won't be on a pole either, attached to a wall.

I have installed most make of Diseqc motors from Stab, Motek, technomate (Motek Clone), fortec Star (Motek clone), Navigator, Clarke Tech and Of course Alsat's dark motor

and out of all those only the Clarke tech and Darkmotor have the larger ARC spread due to the fact that the Darkmoto is a clone of the Clarke tech motor they are identical as are all the other Motek clones.

And i can tell you now the motek clones will not reach 70° east or the same west and it has nothing to do with the limiters it is how they are made. The Motek clones have about 160° spread east to west while the CT and Dark Motor have a nice 180° spread.

Nylon gears sound a lot louder than metal gears and out of all the metal geared motors the Darkmotor is the quietest by far in fact its near silent.
