Satmodem
A satmodem (for satellite modem, in English) is a modem that is used to establish a data link with a communications satellite.
There are two different types:
Satmodems unidirectional (DVB-IP modems are) used a different path to the satellite as return channel (phone, cable, etc.)..
Satmodems bidirectional (also called astromódems; are modems DVB-RCS) that also use the satellite as return channel (not need an additional connection, such as telephone, cable, etc.).. DVB-RCS is ETSI EN 301 790 standard.
The satellite offers tremendous advantage over terrestrial broadband connections, which usually has much more coverage (eg across the European Union) and is easier to change the location with the same team and with the same ticket.
