Dreambox Tuner failure: How to repair.

If by sheer luck, overnight, or your DM500 clone starts to give no signal with power less than 60% before we can proceed with replacing the tuner to make a simple control!

Take the classic multimeter, digital or analog as it is, and let on a scale of 20V

Now take a classic needle those used for sewing, receiver off, disconnect the cable that comes from the satellite dish (LNB IN), and infilateci the needle.
Switch on the dreambox and place on any channel at vertical polarization.
with a multimeter set on 20V put the red dot on the needle, and the black lead to ground on the outside of the LNB, you should have 12V voltage.
Now move up a channel to horizontal polarization and remake the same measurement, this time should be about 18V!

If the values of the voltages are ok, then the tuner is properly fed, then he should be the cause of the absence of signal.
But if you lack both the tensions, or only one, you have to continue checking the fuse F70 is a small, green SMD fuse.
To check if the fuse is good, with the tester can measure the resistance, should be very low, less than 1 Ohm.
If that was ok we can proceed with the replacement of the MOSFET Q72.
If we are lucky that the problem should be solved!
Here are photos of the MOSFET and the fuse:

From this picture the fuse is jumpered as the mosfet (1 - Easy Fix), but is also not recommended because it is NOT the best way to do a repair.
The ideal is to replace the component!

The mosfet is easily sold at any electronics store, ask for a P-channel mosfet with this symbol NDS352APCT-ND.
I saw that on the ebay sell them at 10 € each ... careful not to rob you ...

NB: I have limited myself to gather various information and experiences on the Internet, by enclosing them in a single thread, then it is not my bag of flour!

      Hello

I upload some photos that you can see clearly the MOSFET Q72 and the fuse

I had a dm500s some years ago with this tuner problem but I didn't find the free time to repair.

Now I have other box and the dm500s is forgotten somewhere in my cellar

      I hope helped you
