    Memories

Here I'll show you some old sat receivers

First one is Echostar LT 8700 it is an analogic receiver with positioner enclosed and two decoders: Eurocrypt D2 Mac and Videocrypt

This was one of best receivers at time (I've one again) it has has low threshold so to allow you to receive low signals.
It was able to handle an actuator motor for motorized dish.
Also has had 2 decoders built in. It was sold around 90' years and price was around 1700 euros! Sat receivers at time was really expensives!
After 15 years my LT 8700 is still working without any problems, I just can watch some analogic channels on Astra 19,2 East, but it allows me to move my big dish with his positioner.

      Re: Memories

Good trip skytec, I remeber well this kind of encryption when my "NIC" card was expired! Will be nice to post also a D2 MAC Eurocrypt pic so to show to all how it was, I remember D2 MAC has had really good pic quality on tv, much better then PAL. It was the first step to digital transmissions, it was not 100% analogic like all other systems at time.

Just use attach file button, but you need to load pics with .gif extension not .jpg

My first receiver was echostar I never had any problem with it. I've sold it when I got my dreambox 7020, but I'm sure it's still working

              since 1989 i´m a Sat-DXer,

first with a dish of 1,80 meters for five (!) programs

and in the last 20 years i spent a lot of money for my hobby,

i remember i.e. a little black box with only some transistors, resistors etc. in to descramble " Teleclub " - the very first version ( analogue ) of the later german Premiere, now Sky

and with this thread we all can see how fat time goes by ...

                Re: Memories

I remember the black box!! I've friends in Germany and I remember one of them showed it to me! I've started my hobby in early 1992, my first receiver (analogic) was one unmarked, I've setted up for myself my first dish 1 meter with a feed mover named multisat, it was able to move the lnb so to let you receive +/- 9° from center focus. I've pointed the dish to 16° east and was able to receive all from 23,5 east to 7° east. I remeber at time there was just only 2 Astra satellites: Astra 1A and Astra 1B, both was able to transmitt 32 analogic channels, most of those was coded, like Sky UK and TV3 TV 1000, Filmnet (those was also transmitted in D2 Mac). There was also some encrypted tv from Spain and Germany in Nagravision.
After few months I've brougt Echostar LT 8700 and a new dish 1,30 and installed a motorized system with actuator, so I was able to receive all from 62° East to 45° West. I remeber at time I've spent for all system something about 2500 euro! Compared to now it was just double. My LT 8700 was equipped with both decoders: Videocrypt and Eurocrypt M, S, S2. All equipments are still alive and never have seen service!
Here an example of videocrypt image:
                _www.*******.com/watch?v=7ZmNdLUpfKo&feature=related

And here is an short clip on D2 Mac you can see effects when signal was lost:
                _www.*******.com/watch?v=d_zwcxtFBGk&feature=related

Finally a really rare clip, it was TV 1000 intro to *** movie at midnight, you can see the signal switch between England uplink to Sweden uplink, TV 1000 was swedish pay tv (transmitted in D2 Mac encrypted in Eurocrypt M), but the uplink was done from England, in this nation was forbidden to transmitt *** contens, so when they was transmitting the *** movie after midnight, they was switching off the uplink from England and switch on the uplink from Sweden, you'll see it clearly into this clip:
                _www.*******.com/watch?v=JRmEF0whjz8

Kudok do you remember the pirate box to descramble Nagra channels?

Here is my first one : Engel ES-1005

it was simple with a low sensitivity to the signal and bad graphic
and when i add a transponder another one by magic ... disappears i think it was a software problem but it was fun like first receiver
                  ps:still working

Another old coding system for analogic transmissions was named Ping Pong, it was developed by an italian company named CMR, this company has produced some good analogic receivers at time. Here a brief description of system and attached pics about decoder and scrambled image with this system:

Electronic system CMR "Ping-Pong" for coding/decoding television signals.
To menage the audience with the possibility to enable and disable by in-video message operation or by means of key card settings automatically.
The system is made up of n. 1 encoder "Ping-Pong" and of various units decoder with a given card in function of the members number. The system includes four divisions for use in management:
                          Decoders without cards
Decoders with cards conteining the users code
Decoders with cards for a predeterminated time
Decoders with cards for control points

This encryption was adopted by SCT channel in early 1994

It was used by Swiss, Spanish, and French pay tv at time. It has had a kind of plastic key instead smart card, into this key was mounted the chip.
A pirate decoder was build to descramble Syster, it worked reibuilding the images linees not forcing the key.

                              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another old decoder, into link down you can see a pirate analogic Irdeto. It was used to descramble RTL 4, RTL 5, and first terrestrial italian Pay Tv Tele+.
Into circuit you can see two buttons on board and one small display, button was used to change the kind of encryption to descrable, and the display was used to check what code you was inputing.
