    Recommendation

    Hi Guys,

I'm looking at buying my first Sattelite system. I've been searching around in different sites and to be honest its a littl daunting with whats out there. For me I'd like to get a motorised dish to view a load of foreign channels. Philippines, Japanese and Chinese among them. So i understand the bigger the dish the more you can tune in to.

Can anyone recommend a Sattelite dish pack (including receiver) that i should be looking at?

What should i look out for when purchasing a kit? Are there any trusty installers in London (north / east) that anyone can recommend?

Sorry to ask so many questions. Any help is most appreciated.

    Thanks for your help

so you want to view chinese, japanese and philippines satellites in the u.k.?
Without knowing too much about which satellites they broadcast on, I'd say that they'd most likely be out of range in the u.k.

      Thanks bokkie,

Well i'm not experienced enough to give all the details, i'll try to find out. Generally the bigger the disk the greater distance or does it not work like that?

Also, with regards to receivers, what would you recommend as a HD receiver with perhaps a PVRbuilt in?

It's going to be my first satellite system so any recommendations would be really helpful

        Re: Recommendation

First of all most of the Chinese, Japanese and Philippines channels are in C Band so you would need a C band LNB and Dish.
Unfortunately those satellites are way out of the range of the UK. So there is no Chance of getting any of those satellites in here. Your best option will be to subscribe to an IPTV service from these countries. For IPTV you don't need a dish. All you need is a good broadband and a reliable IPTV service.

          Re: Recommendation

What you got to also remember is that there are planning restrictions on the size of dish
you would be allowed in the U.K, 6 ft, 8 ft dishes that members here on the this forum
have would simply be not allowed.

            Re: Recommendation

OK, this is becoming confusing. Whats the normal dish size people go for? What is the normal setup without looking at Band C LNB and Sattelite Dish?

            What do you guys run?

              Re: Recommendation

There is an EU law actually about the size of the dish. If you are immigrated from another country to the UK and it needs a bigger dish to receive your country's Satellite to watch news and other things in your native language then you can probably install a bigger dish. But you need to check with your local council.

                    Re: Recommendation

The satellites you are looking for are all below the horizon, so no matter what size dish you have it won't help.
To get most of the european sats a 1 metre dish would be a good size, that should get you most of the arc with good rain margin.
go to dishpointer and enter your postcode. Zoom in on the map and drop the marker on the wall you intend installing the dish. You can then use the dropdown menu to see what sats you could get.

To receive satellites in the UK covering 37 East to 30 west you would need at least 80cm dish, depending on the area you live (the bigger up to 120cm, the better), a Ku band LNB, a receiver of your own choice and budget and a motor (if you wish). They all will server the purpose.

I recommend the C-band satellite which has a wide coverage.
For this you need a satellite dish large dimension and accessories that suits him and a technician for installation and orientation.
                        .

                          Re: Recommendation

                          Hi,
In brief the further a satellite is away to the east of west the more you have to point the dish down. A satellite due above you would have your dish at around 30 degrees,
A standard sly dish is at around 28 degrees elevation.
Once more than around 50 degrees to east or west the satellite signal travel through much more of the atmosphere. This makes it much weaker.

It is also more easily blocked by trees , buildings or anything with water in it, ie clouds.

Investing in more than an 1.2m dish is a waste of time for a first timer, in fact I would say an 80cm dish would do.

I doubt you could get the main asian packages directly , but king of sat or lyngsat may have info of asian channels carried by other carriers. Many of the arabian provider have asian channels due to the large populations there.

                            Take a look at _http://it.kingofsat.net/search.php.
here you can search sat channels by language.
When you have your list you can check sat footprints and find out the dish size required.

                              Re: Recommendation

Generally, in the uk, up to a 1.2m dish size is big enough with a perfect setup to pick up the majority if not all of the Ku band satellites which have a vast range of channels. Usually, I would have told you to get a motorised system (as you want a lot of variety of channels) which will not restrict you in the future and give you a powerful satellite setup as you can move to any available satellite. But the problem is your choice of channels are contained in C band like all the previous posts have confirmed.

If you take a look at the kingofsat website and have a search on the exact channels that you have in mind of viewing and maybe there are some available on Ku band and you could maybe get simple fixed setup to pick it up...

If you could list a few channels that you were thinking of, then maybe we can help or advise if it is possible to pick it up from London...!
