    You mean LNBF, not transponder?
Doing so you will turn aerial off.
Umbrella is the best way to get rid of moisture.

I have my channel master under a tree so the weather does not effect the dish so it is protected from most the elemnts

Rain on the dish, lnb or plug is not the Problem!
The electrical mass is outside and means no problem for the signal.

But rain means (dark) clouds. And if the clouds are too much, this will affect your signal.

The dish is normaly vertical, so snow won't hold on the dish. If yes, there's so much snow that you will also have the dark cloud problem.
If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans!

i have some problems too if heavy snow is coming down it holds in the middle of the dish so i got signal loss... some solutions except the umbrella option? little bit windy sometimes too in bavaria ....

what if i take a 12v 30amp car battery and get minus and plus on each side of the dish...? the lnb is covered in plastic so it cant get any damage of it i think.

          somebody tried yet?

I would of thought you would melt the dish if you connect a battery to it

              Sorry MoFu,
but I'm little bit scared about your ipotesys.
Do you think that it could be dangerous to give tension to your dish? and if the wet weather will connect your cable with the metal support?
Have you think to cover with a light plastik roof your dish?
              Best regards.

Connect the battery to the dish is of course a gamble, and if you use the special spiral, it is quite possible melt the ice on a platter, but it is only for the experiment.

just an idea and thinking about if it could work and interested in your opinion....

when i turn power on it should take the same effect like the thing in first post... + and - causes heating, but like kvf said it would be better to put a spiral in the middle and heating this...

im not worried about damaging lnb or something, everything in plastic cases and cables are isolated too, what should go wrong?

Why not combine besit idea (post 28) and a light bulb for a low cost solution.

                      Hi mahrkpat,
original idea post 28, but are you pretty sure that when you have snow on the dish signal level is enough?
I look forward to receiving your opinion.
                      Best regards-

Cunningly enough that is where the light bulb comes in the heat generated will
melt the snow and frost, the plastic bottle will not only protect lnb but also the
light bulb from getting wet therefore no signal loss.
