    Re: Increase signal

Yes bokkie, North Of England. I thought, after your advise to go for a 100cm motorised and will do other projects with the 90 in the future just to play around. Its a kind of satisfaction when you take up a project and do it on your own.

100 cm motorised should be great.
Do some research on dishes as some perform better than others.
also I think 100 cm is the max without planning permission.
      not sure though.

          Re: Increase signal

I would take the planning regulation with a pinch of salt as it is a known fact that all of the UK's immigrants are allowed to install bigger dishes than 100cm if it is required to receive there own national TV channels from there country of origin.

if so then a 90cm should act as a 70cm or 80 cm down south.
You'll get most sats with a 90 but with not much of a rain margin on some of the weaker sats like tring on 16e.
Would do great for a multi lnb on 13e, 19e. and maybe even 9e or 23.5 e.

Thats not true an 80cm for all of the north of england is all that is required for reliable reception of 16° east and that factors in rain margin as well

I'm south african. So do you reckon they'd let me install a 2 metre dish to get dstv?
All I need now is the space to install it.

At ground level you can have what ever size you require as long as its hidden from your neighbours view

I was just going by the dish size guides which recommend an 80-100 cm dish for 16e in south of england, increasing the further north you go.
I have an 80 in the south east and only get 45% and on Tring.

The dish size guides are just that for reference only, Take for example Nordic Beam on 4.8° east the footprint finishes in the sea just off the east coast stating that it requires at least a minimum 120cm dish, but seeing as the footprint vanishes in the sea we should not get this at all but we do and with rain fade margin built in on a 90cm is easily receivable on a 90cm in the north of england.

there are 3 main factors you need to consider

                  1. A good quality dish
                  2. Inverto Black Ultra LNB
                  3. Reciever with sensitive tuner

                  and your good to go.

                    Re: Increase signal

The coaxial quality is another factor. You will need a good quality cable like W100.

Again depends on the run anything under 30m and you wont notice the difference over 30m is where it starts to tell.

apart form the hardware, but also really important: the setup/dish alignment and a free view (no blocking of any objects). Only then you'll get good/optimal signal.

When I had my motorised dish installed I also replaced the coax on my sky dish.
it had the low quality sky engineer stuff before and was replaced with high quality webro wf100 coax.
                          Didn't make a noticeable difference.
Then again it was only a 6 metre run.

I dont think it will make lots of difference in a 6 meter length. It has certainly great effect when it a longer length like about 20 meters or so. WF100 is good quality cable though.

                              wf100?
a good friend, Installer, recommends, (120db) the very best.
                              80-100db, bog standard normal.
