    Re: Increase signal

Get a bigger dish mate. Lol
Either that or tweak your dish. If your dish is even slightly out it could mean the difference of receiving or not receiving the weaker signals.
If you have a dodgy old lnb you could change that as well.
Do you have a motorised dish or static?
more information would be really helpful.

The signal quality also depends on the quality of the cable and LNB. get a good quality cable and LNB. Tweak with the LNB by turning it slightly left/right. Move the LNB in/out. Diseq switch also reduce the quality. Length of the cable is another factor. and The most important, dish size!

Yes good quality coaxial is important and of course the length.
when I had my dish installed I had it positioned so that the cable to the stb would be as short as possible.
But size does matter in the satellite world.

Also try to seperate the cable from electric wires for less interference. Both have some magnetic filed and they interfere with each other.

I bought a new diseq after the harsh winter and my signal strength improved drastically, especially the hd channels

                Re: Increase signal

Yes it all depends on the quality of the Diseq switch and the material they have used inside like capacitors and resistors. Thats why the price of the DiseqC swiche varies too.

when i put my dish in my back garden i fed the cable through a old hose pipe and burried it in a little trench so it was out the way never had any trouble with it.

                    Re: Increase signal

Thats brilliant. its called shielding. You add extra cores to the cable to make it weather and water proof.

                      Re: Increase signal

you could and a Satellite Signal Amplifier to increase the signal by approx 5% in somecases.

                        Re: Increase signal

The most important bit is make sure you have a clear view of the southern sky where you mount the dish. Better that there are no trees, walls and chimney.

yep, and for me even more important: that it's secure fixed on a fixed/stable surface (surely in windy places like here)!

Also, precise adjustment of the dish and LNB Skew can increase the signal.

The dish size also plays an important role in the signal quality. In some areas 60-80cm would be enough but in other areas you you would need at least 90-100cm.
