    Satellite Antenna Alignment

The program "Satellite Antenna Alignment" is used to calculate the angles necessary for installing satellite dishes. The main difference from similar software is the possibility to calculate the position for all satellites at once. Thus, you get a clear picture about what satellites can be physically visible from the location where the dish will be installed. It should be kept in mind that the program makes a purely theoretical calculation according to formulas and in real circumstances a lot of additional factors should be taken into account when a satellite dish is installed. These factors include various obstacles (buildings, trees), the landscape, the altitude, transponder orientation, polarization, etc. Nevertheless, this program will allow you to evaluate the position quite precisely. The calculation can be saved to a text file, copied to the Windows clipboard or printed out at once. It is possible to save the list of locations for which the calculation is done. Later on, you will not have to enter the coordinates of these locations again. Just select them from the table.

Additionally, the program has a mechanism for calculating the azimuth of the sun and you can do everything without a compass now! The azimuth is calculated for the location the coordinates of which you specified for calculating the azimuths of satellites. You can specify the date (the current date is taken by default) and calculate how the sun moves with a one minute discontinuity. The calculation results are displayed in the table to the left. Both the azimuth and the elevation are calculated for the sun for the current moment of time. Thus, you can install the satellite dish without a compass at all. First, find the azimuth of the satellite you need. Then calculate the azimuth of the sun for the day on which you are going to install the dish. Find the azimuth of the sun that is most close to the azimuth to the satellite and you will see the time (and date) when the sun will be in the same direction where the satellite is. Turn the dish to the sun at the specified moment of time, the azimuth of the sun coincides with the azimuth of the satellite at this moment. Or just note this direction and install the dish later. Remember to specify your time zone for calculation (Moscow: +3 GMT). The program also calculates the azimuths of the sunrise and sunset, as well as the time and elevation when the sun is exactly in the south.

Nice to read the theoretical values.

But when you adjust your dish, a sat finder is compellingly necessary!
No computer program will help you.

And when you have to adjust a multifeed dish with 3 or 4 sats on a diseqc switch there are other values to consider than the elevation angles of this program. It will be much higher on edge!
If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans!

Can't say I really understand the need for this. I set mine up just using a meter and a bit of trial and error.

Please all members be careful when you are asked to install another software to
get another one you will be giving permission for something nasty to be installed
on your computer that will take most of your time trying to figure out how to get
              rid of it.

I have worked in the past with this application and I think that it's a very usefull tool.
It will help someone who is planning to realise a sat project.
It Can help you to take your decision about the location of mounding your dish as well as the orientation and elevation of the dish by the help of a compass.
Of course this application can't align your dish by it's self but can help you in many ways.
It's very difficult for someone new in this sport, to search the sky in blind to find a sattelite even with the help of a satfinder without knowing where exactly to search.

At the end of the day you still have to get up there and do the work.
Personally I would much rather do the donkey work than spend hours pouring over
and trying to relate all this info to my site. The fact that there is malware associated
with this download should be enough to convince most people to stay well away from it.
                  Just my thoughts.

                  Regards Mobley3

                    Re: Satellite Antenna Alignment

I attended a Ka band installation course the other day. They have nice way of fine-tuning the dish.
All you need is meter that gives desibel reading or software program like Adenines Satfinder plug-in for Dreambox.

After alignment. Take db reading. Say it is 18 db. Now block of bottom half of LNB with alu tape. New reading is now 3db for instance. Then block off top half and new reading is is 11 db. Difference between 11 and 3 db is 8 db. Then move the dish to decrease the 11 db reading with 4 ( half the 8 diff.) Your reading should be 7 db now. Block off bottom half again to check. It should also be 7db. Fine tune in this way until you get it more or less the same.

Now do the same for Left and Right and you should be bang on.
