    Eutelsat 70B begins operation

    Eutelsat 70B begins operation
    January 16, 2013

Eutelsat 70B, the Paris-based satellite operator’s latest spacecraft, has gone into commercial service at 70.5° East.

The 70.5° East position has been popular for data services, broadband access, GSM backhauling and professional video exchanges, according to Eutelsat. The new satellite features four beams and 48 Ku-band transponders covering Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.

The transfer of all traffic from the Eutelsat 70A satellite was carried out overnight by Eutelsat’s control centre. The 70A satellite will redployed to 25.5° East until the lauch of Eutelsat 25B later this year. Eutelsat 25A will be redeployed to an alternative location.
