new launch date is 28-09-2012 and I think 1N and 2A channels will be moved to this satellite.

      Re: Astra 2F

Hi pan, here is some more info about the new satellite. Hope this is helpful for you.

The satellite will provide free-to-air and encrypted direct-to-home (DTH) digital TV and satellite broadband services for Europe and Africa.
Astra 2F’s primary mission is to continue this provision as replacement and follow-on capacity to the Astra 2A, Astra 2B, Astra 2D and Astra 1N satellites, delivering programming to almost 13 million satellite homes, over 3 million cable homes, and 700,000 IPTV homes in the UK and Ireland, in particular for channels from the major UK digital satellite TV platforms, BSkyB and Freesat. In addition, Astra 2F will serve the growing DTH platforms in West Africa such as Ghana’s MultiTV. Astra 2F will also provide SES Broadband’s first commercial Ka-band satellite broadband service in Europe, delivering high-speed Internet access (at download speeds up to 20Mbits/s) along with VoIP, and IPTV from November 1, 2012.

        Re: Astra 2F

2f will have a pan european beam and a uk spot beam. I would guess that the fta channels such as bbc, itv, channel 4, etc will go on the spot beam.
There have been predicted footprints, but won't really know until it's operational.
Hope it doesn't effect our brothers in europe too much.

I doubt any of the Sky package will got to the Spot beam on 2F as uncle rupert will lose millions in revenue from the overseas subscribers, even the spotbeam on 1N has been picked up in europe so its wait and see what the whole satellite is like until its brought into action

Hi Pan, If you read my post it will answer your question. It will be used for UK radio and BskyB abd Freesat from BBC. The Irish Ka band will also use this satellite for Tv and broadband.

Toby has said the same thing in technical way

                    hi microchick

ok sorry, you're right - but: I read your post, think I was just a bit too lazy to search what's on 'BSkyB and Freesat' - may be obvious for your 'uk-people', but here and for me it isn't.

Believe me, there is so much rubbish and repetition that you would be bored of it after 2 days and we pay £145/year for it. If you seperate good channels from the bad channels then you get like 15 free good channels. The rest of the good channels (Movies, Sports, Educatin) belong to sly and paid. Thanks to Mr Satlover that we are able to watch them

Think we'll have to wait and see. They can only predict what is expected, but won't know for sure until it's operational.

It has specially launched for ka band satellite broadband services in Europe. It will serve the growing DTH platforms in West Africa such as Ghana’s MultiTV. With different frequencies it might be a possibility that the Irish will get freesat with a small dish.
