German cable operators Unitymedia and Kabel BW will keep their established brand names for the time being.
A name change of the merged companies, for example into UPC Germany, is not currently planned, Viktor Janik, Head of Regulatory Affairs at Unitymedia, told German industry newsletter "Digitalmagazin".
Janik added that he could, however, not rule out a name change in the next 10 years.
The new leadership circle of Unitymedia and Kabel BW has now been fixed, according to the report. CEO of the joint company will be Unitymedia head Lutz Schüler with Herbert Leifker (also from Unitymedia) becoming CCO. The CTO position will be held by Uwe Bärmann, formerly technical chairman of Kabel BW.
The German cartel office approved the take-over of Kabel BW by Liberty Global in December 2011, thereby enabling the merger with Unitymedia which has been in the hands of the US media company since November 2009.
