    ST-2 & the ABS-2 for Arianespace

    The satellite consortium ST-2 Satellite Ventures Pte Ltd (STS) a consortium consisting of Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (SingTel) and Chunghwa Telecom Company Ltd (Chunghwa), has chosen Arianespace to launch its new communications satellite of the ST-2, This satellite will replace the ST-1, which launched from Arianespace in 1998. The other important news for Arianespace is the decision of Asia Broadcast Satellite Asia to use its services for the launching of ABS-2!

    1) The ST-2 satellite will be launched by Ariane 5 ECA in the second quarter of 2011 from the European spaceport in French Guiana.
    The satellite will be built by the Japanese Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, which makes use of the DS2000 platform and the time off will be a mass exceeding 5100 kg. The satellite will carry C - band and Ku-band transponders that will provide fixed and mobile satellite voice services but Data IP for business, especially actors DTH, and shipping companies in Asia and the Middle East, the ST-2 expected to have a lifetime in orbit 15 years.
    2) The Asia Broadcast Satellite also chose Arianespace to launch new telecommunications satellite of the ABS-2.

    This is the 11th contract signed in 2009 by Arianespace. The launch of the ABS-2 for the transfer to geostationary orbit is planned for first half of 2012 will also be launched by Ariane 5 ECA from the European Space Agency and the Space Centre in French Guiana. The ABS-2 satellite is the first for which the ABS has chosen Arianespace to launch.
    Also, Asia Broadcast Satellite is the 30th customer for Arianespace.

    The ABS-2 satellite has a mass that is greater than 6.000 kg, during its launch and will provide services for a lifetime exceeding 15 years. The satellite will be built by Space Systems Loral using the platform of LS 1300, and is equipped with C & Ku-band and Ka band services and will provide more than four times the existing capacity of the ABS-1. Located at 75 degrees East and will be shared with the ABS-1, the ABS-2 will offer a wide range of services to Asia, Russia, Africa and the Middle East, including DTH, cable television distribution, multimedia applications, and data network and telecommunications services. The ABS-2 satellite will be an important addition to the existing satellite transponders 44 ABS-1, which continues to fuel, which the left has more than 14 years of life. The ABS-2 will provide expansion capacity for already existing customers of ABS-1 and also serves as a backup pending on track for the transponders of the ABS-1.
