    TeliaSonera sees IPTV fall

    By Julian Clover
    Published: July 20, 2010 10.11 Europe/London

Around 36% of TeliaSonera’s broadband customers now subscribe to its IPTV offer, but the Swedish telco has reported a second quarter dip in TV households.

The total number of TV subscriptions rose by 131,000 from the second quarter of 2009 to 800,000. This however represents a drop from the 823,000 households reported at the end of the first quarter.

Revenues from IPTV and VoIP subscriptions increased by more than 50% compared to 2009 and combined with higher revenues from broadband services partly compensated for the decline in traditional fixed-voice services.

TeliaSonera says it is continuing to put money into fibre access and transmission networks to support higher bandwidth services such as IPTV and broadband, but says that uncertainties over regulation from the Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (PTS) is continuing to delay the roll-out in Sweden.

Net sales in the cable TV company Telia Stofa were SEK 353 million (€37.12m) . In local currency, net sales increased 4.9% compared to the corresponding quarter last year.

Earlier this month, TeliaSonera announced the sale of Stofa to private equity firm Ratos.
