UPC offers Digital-TV-over-IP to hospitals

UPC Business is offering a wholesale solution to hospitals and care homes in The Netherlands. Using its fibre backbone network, the cabler is employing digital-TV-over-IP to deliver 56 TV channels and 35 radio stations to patients.
Last year, the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMC) was the first to successfully connect 800 beds to digital TV over IP. Stella van den Bergh, Multimedia Consultant UMC Utrecht, said “This is a small revolution in the country: other hospitals call us now because they want what we have now. Digital television in this way the bed is much more efficient and of a higher quality. “
UPC Business will also offer full triple play. For hospitals, it will also be possible to insert their own digital TV channel on the system, e.g. for a special kids channel or a channel with patient information.
In a related news story, UPC Nederland said it will launch a weekly 1-hour entertainment programme called Kanaal 12 (channel 12), which will inform subscribers about the VOD offer and other news about the network. The programme will be broadcast on Channel 12.
