Spain's thematic pay-TV sector appears not to be suffering so much from the economic crisis because in June its share went up to 6.9% of total TV consumption.
At the same time 35.3% of population (15.5 million people) watched these channels during the study period. Out of this figure 6.6 million people have done so on a daily basis (14.9% of the total) according to latest report by the Telecommunications Market Commission (CMT).
Spanish thematic channels reached a share of 6.7% for the ***** audience of 16 years of age and older, 9% among children from 4 to 12 years old and 6% in the case of the housewives.
The penetration of these channels is above the national average in the regions of the Balearic islands, the Basque Country, the Canary Islands, Murcia, Madrid, Aragón and Asturias.
As for the type of audiences, the biggest differences in comparison to the previous month of May have to do with the age. Viewers from 4 to 34 years of age increased viewing by 3.6 percentage points.
By *-*-*, male viewing presented a growth of 2 percentage points, with men making up the majority of viewers (54%).
Finally, Fox TV and AXN were the most-watched channels.
