Freesat to launch HD marketing campaign

Freesat to launch HD marketing campaign

    Wednesday, March 31 2010, 12:38 BST

    By Andrew Laughlin,

Freesat has unveiled a new marketing campaign to promote its high definition service in the run-up to the World Cup.

The free-to-air satellite service, which recently reached the one million customers landmark, will launch the multi-platform promotional drive tomorrow, starting with a TV advert on ITV1.

Focusing on the availability of BBC HD and ITV1 HD on Freesat, the campaign will run across television, press and social media sites up to the World Cup in June.

Created by the Farm agency, the adverts feature interplay between a husband and wife as the man tries to earn 'brownie points' to enjoy the football showpiece in HD.

"Our new campaign comes at a particularly exciting time for Freesat as we recently passed the 1m milestone - a fantastic achievement in such a highly competitive market," said Freesat marketing and communications director Will Abbott.

"Being able to get the World Cup in HD, subscription free and across the whole country - no matter where you live - is a brilliant story for consumers. The TV commercial brings humour and a clear voice and personality to Freesat.

"The website content we've created and the social media activity we're running will help us talk to as many world cup fans as possible and give them a chance to participate."

Freesat has also created a dedicated World Cup section on its website featuring a range of content, including a match planner and expert blogs from Lee Dixon.
