Cox Communications' customers in Connecticut without 3D televisions can check out YES's coverage of the New York Yankees-Seattles Mariners games this week in the enhanced format at local Best Buy outlets.
Cox, which is one of eight distributors that will be carrying the regional sports network's 3D telecasts on July 10 and 11, is encouraging those without 3D-capable TV sets to visit the retailer's stores in Manchester or Meriden this Sunday. Upon opening the Best Buy stores will replay the 3D telecast of the July 10 game, leading in to the live coverage of Sunday's game at 4:10 p.m. (ET).
"Cox is excited to offer our customers this unique viewing opportunity, and we also feel privileged to host anyone interested in checking out the 3D Yankees experience through our great partnership with Best Buy," said Roger Sokolosky, vice president of sales, Cox New England, in a statement. "YES is providing baseball coverage like no one has seen before."
At home, Cox customers will need a 3D television and an HD or HD/DVR receiver to access the Yankees on YES 3D. The receiver must be connected to the 3DTV with an HDMI cable, where customers will then be required to tune to channel 784, and change the setting on their 3DTV to "3D format" or "3D mode." The TV manufacturer's specified 3D glasses will also be required to view the content in 3D.
The Yankees-Mariners ballgames from Safeco Field in Seattle marks Cox's second sports play with the format in recent months: in April, it presented ESPN and the Augusta National Golf Club's live 3D coverage of select holes from The Masters over the grand slam tourney's four days.
In addition to Cox, YES's coverage of the Yankees-Mariners 3D games will be carried by DirecTV, Verizon FiOS, Comcast, Cablevision, Time Warner Cable, Blue Ridge Communications and Service Electric Broadband Cable within the Bronx Bombers' TV territory of New York state and Connecticut, north and central New Jersey, and northeast Pennsylvania.
Across the country, FSN Northwest's 3D telecasts of the games is being carried by DirecTV, Comast throughout Washington and Time Warner Cable in the eastern part of the state.
