DT offers interactive IPTV world premiere
German telco Deutsche Telekom will offer the customers of the IPTV platform Entertain on its ADSL broadband networks the option to follow a personalised selection of live matches from domestic soccer league Bundesliga taking place at the same time from the upcoming 2010/11 season.
All subscribers to Bundesliga package LIGA total! will be able to choose between the standard selection following the events in all parallel games or the hand-picked selection of their favourite teams.
“This form of interactivity is a world premiere,” Telekom’s marketing head Christian P. Illek said in Bonn, adding that the days of conventional, fixed TV programmes would come to an end. “Non-linear and interactive television will in future complement linear programmes and thereby further change peoples’ viewing habits.”
To set up their personal selection, viewers select a main game on the on-screen menu and add further matches they are interested in. The main game will then be shown in full-screen mode while an event alarm will pop up in a small frame every time something important happens in the secondary matches such as goals, foul plays, penalties or red cards.
Viewers then have the option to switch these scenes into full-screen mode. They can decide whether to continue following one of the secondary games in full-screen mode or return back to the original main game.
They can also access statistics, the current Bundesliga chart, live results updates and goal scorer lists while watching the games. The new personalised selection service will be available to all LIGA total! subscribers at no additional charge.
