DTH take-up is growing rapidly in Ukraine despite most of the country’s households still being dependent on analogue terrestrial services.
According to AKTR and Delo, the number of satellite subscribers is likely to grow by 7% between now and the end of the year to reach around 3.1 million. The forecast was made by MYtv, one of the four DTH platforms currently operating in the country (the others being Viasat Ukraine, Poverkhnost Plus and Russia’s NTV-Plus).
Although Ukraine was relatively late to introduce DTH services, it began to grow in earnest last year, with up to 600,000 homes acquiring dishes. However, even now around 14 million homes, or 80% of the total, still receive analogue TV.
