BBC forced into Facebook 'saddos' apology

BBC forced into Facebook 'saddos' apology

    By Andrew Laughlin,

The BBC has been forced to apologise after labelling Facebook users "saddos" on a microsite for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The error was first discovered on Sunday by The Media Blog on a page which was still under construction.

In a column promoting the BBC's forthcoming social media coverage of the Games, the holding page read: "Follow us on Twitter. You can also become a saddo on Facebook."

In response, the BBC's head of sport interactive Ben Gallop said: "[It was] clearly a mistake, and we are looking into how a test page came to be published.

"The 2012 Olympics site is still being built, but needless to say some of the placeholder text that was up there at the weekend was inappropriate and we apologise for that."
