Sky Sports unveils Premier League games

Sky Sports unveils Premier League games

    By Andrew Laughlin,

Sky Sports has announced the opening set of fixtures from its record 115 English Premier League games for the 2010/11 season.

The sports broadcaster will start its coverage on August 14 for Tottenham Hotspur's match against Manchester City, which will be live on Sky Sports 2 and Sky Sports 2 HD.

On August 15, Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 1 HD will air coverage of Liverpool's game against Arsenal. The channels will also broadcast Manchester United versus Newcastle United on August 16.

A full list of the broadcaster's 44 live Premier League games to the end of November is available now on the Sky Sports website.

For the new football season, Sky Sports will be able to offer five of the six available packs of Premier League games, with ESPN offering the remaining batch of 23 games.

All Sky's games will be made available in high definition, with selected live matches also being offered in 3D. The Sky 3D channel is already available to pubs and clubs throughout the UK and Ireland, but it will also soon be gradually rolled out to Sky's resident customers.

Compatible with all Sky+ HD set top boxes, Sky 3D will initially be introduced at no extra cost for customers on Sky's top tier TV package and the Sky HD pack. However, they will first need to purchase a 3D-ready TV set.

Sky Sports subscribers can also watch the live Premier League matches on Sky Player and Sky Mobile TV. From July 12, Sky will offer nearly six months free subscription to the services to all of its Sky Sports customers.

"This season we will have more live Barclays Premier League games than ever before and all in HD," said Sky Sports managing director Barney Francis.

"This is a great lineup of fixtures starting with Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester City and we'll show last year's top five across the first two weekends of the season.

"Monday Night Football is also back and we have a mouth-watering opening fixture between Manchester United and Newcastle United on August 16."

Sky will also air live matches from the UEFA Champions League, along with Scottish Premier League games, Spanish La Liga and some Euro 2012 home nation qualifiers.
