TVN carried out its first live 3D broadcasting in Chile
The Chilean state-owned channel TVN carried out its first live 3D broadcasting. In order to make this broadcasting real, the channel opened its so-called TVNHD2 trial channel, which joined the already existing HD channel where World Soccer Cup games are broadcasted.
TVN broadcasted in 3D the game between the Italian and Slovequian teams. With this trial, the channel is getting technically ready for this new technology arrival. However, in Chile, the sale and penetration of available 3D receivers is almost nule; therefore, TV sets located in theMetropolitan area (where the game was broadcasted) did not manage to appreciate the service quality. Among other brands, Samsung and Sony have already announced the sale of devices fitted with the aforementioned capacity in the second half of theyear.
Enzo Yacometti, TVN Business Development and Strategy Director pointed out: "As we recorded a turning point in Chilean TV history since we were the first company that broadcasted HD, today we can say that we are the first company that broadcast a free-to-air 3D HD program". Since a couple of months ago, the main Chilean cable operator, VTR, has been carrying out trials with 3D technology, but unlike TVN, which was live and direct broadcasting, VTR has only a 3-minute video offer, some of which have no audio.
