Three new TDT channels wil be bidded in Peru
The Peruvian Minister of Transport and Communications, Enrique Cornejo, informed that in July three ISDB-T TDT channels under UHF band would be assigned through public bidding. It is about channel 29, 30 and 31. At present, three channels are broadcasting programming digitally, one of them through One Seg for mobile TV. By year end, six additional channels are expected to be granted.
Cornejo pointed out that so far "channels 16 to 28 under UHF band had been assigned and a public bidding will be opened for three additional channels, that is, 29, 30 and 31". Only one channel will be authorized per juridical person; therefore, those who have already been assigned this type of channel will not be able to apply. According to the official, if a "better assignation is achieved", by year end, "at least six additional channels might be granted".
The channels that already broadcast through TDT are IRTP (Channel 7) and ATV (Channel 9), both are free-to-air; whereas, América Televisión (Channel 4) is broadcasting through One Seg. Cornejo commented that a fourth channel would start to broadcast in August (Frecuencia Latina-Channel 2) and that Panamericana Televisión (Channell 5), would follow the same steps though it has not been disclosed when.
