Swedish-owned Teracom has taken control of the Danish terrestrial TV and radio networks after reaching agreement with the public broadcaster Danmarks Radio and commercial network TV2.
The acquisition, due to be finalized after the summer, includes the operator Broadcast Service Denmark (BSD), 34 broadcast towers and a fibre distribution network. For strategic reasons, DR will retain its multiplexes and transmitters for radio and TV.
“BSD has a strong position in Denmark with a stable client base and operations that generate positive results, which will contribute to the Group’s profitability,” said Teracom CEO Crister Fritzson. “The acquisition means that Teracom Group can take advantage of the various companies’ experiences and knowledge to develop the Swedish and Danish terrestrial networks. By improving quality and efficiency, we can meet the increasingly fierce competition in the television market.”
Teracom Group already owns pay-TV operator Boxer TV that has a 12-year licence on the Danish terrestrial network.
