Freebox launches 33 channel catch-up TV

    Published: June 30, 2010

Iliad, the group behind French IPTV Free, has launched the catch-up TV service Freebox Replay TV, making programming available from 33 channels. Programming can be accessed from a single portal, a mosaic with logos from all the different broadcasters.

The services comes in two tiers, one for the basic TV subscribers, one for the extended tier. Starting now, all viewers have access to 22 channels: M6, Arte, W9, Gulli, NRJ12, Game One, NT1, France 24, LCP, RTL9, AB1 and AB Moteurs; extended tiers include channels such as Odyssée, Motors TV, Escales, Chasse et Pêche, Toute l’Histoire, Encyclopedia, Animaux, Boing, Boomerang and TCM.

In August, the offer will be augmented with 11 more channels: BFM TV, Euronews, France 2, France 3, France 4, France 5, France O, NRJ Paris and TV5 Monde in the basic tier and MCM and Mangas as options.

With a total of 33 channels, the Freebox Replay TV service offers probably the widest choice of catch-up programming on any platform in Europe. Notably absent are the Canal+ and the TF1 catch-up services. MyTF1 should join the service later in the year. MyTF1 is already available on the IPTV platforms from Bouyges Telecom and Orange.

Access to the catch-up TV service is free of charge to all subscribers of the relevant tiers. People need to have the latest version of the Freebox, the HD box. Also owners of the Alicebox can access the service.
