K+ signs up English, Italian soccer

K+, the new Vietnamese digital-satellite platform owned by Canal+ and local broadcaster VTV, will broadcast English and Italian top-flight soccer from the start of the upcoming season in August.
VSTV, the company which operates K+, has obtained all TV rights – free-to-air and pay-TV - to the next three seasons of English Premier League (EPL) soccer. Premium channel K+1 will exclusively broadcast Sunday matches.
The company also won exclusive broadcast rights for Italy’s Serie A.
K+ plans to offer matches both in standard and high definition, and will add Vietnamese commentary. The English and Italian leagues will be added to K+1’s alrteady-impressive soccer line-up of Champions’ League, Europa League, France’s Ligue 1 and Spain’s La Liga.
Van Lięt, managing director of VSTV, told local media: “We have invested much to obtain these exclusive rights with the aim of making K+1 known to Vietnamese TV viewers.”
Platform K+ launched in January 2010, with channel K+1 following in March. The channel follows the Canal+ mixed-genre premium channel model, offering sport, film, fiction and documentaries.
