bbcworldwideUK public broadcaster the BBC has stopped its plans to launch further pay-TV channels in Germany. “Unfortunately, the resonance in the German market wasn't strong enough to take the risk of dubbing four channels,” Michael Kayser, German representative of commercial subsidiary BBC Worldwide, told German industry publication Kontakter.
The plan was to offer thematic channels BBC Knowledge, BBC Lifestyle and BBC Entertainment as well as HDTV service BBC HD to German viewers. The channels can already be received in many European countries - localised in the domestic language.
The decision means that German TV households will continue to only have the two English-language channels - BBC World News and BBC Entertainment.
