Channel 4 to launch religious film series
By Andrew Laughlin,
Channel 4 will soon launch a new religious strand of short films to be aired daily after the Channel 4 News, it has emerged.
Titled 4Thought, the series of five minute videos will feature a range of speakers discussing religious and social issues, reports The Guardian.
The series, which has drawn comparisons to BBC Radio 4's long-running Thought Of The Day segment, will draw on a wide variety of presenters and themes, along with minority religions such as Bahá'í and Zoroastrianism.
Debuting on July 5, the opening batch of seven films will focus on the third anniversary of the July 2007 terrorist attacks on London.
Channel 4's head of specialist factual Ralph Lee said that contributors to the 4Thought slot will be "as diverse as the views expressed".
He added: "These films will give voice to a plethora of beliefs and opinions. Crucially, it will provide a space for views about religions and ethics that receive virtually no coverage on any other channel."
A 4thought.tv website will also be launched, with the strand to be produced by independent firm Wadell Media.
