Regulator unwilling to act over Czech mux

Regulator unwilling to act over Czech mux

The Czech Telecom Office (CTU) is reluctant to remove unused channels on the country’s fourth multiplex, which is operated by the incumbent telco Telefónica O2.

Quoting CTU’s head Pavel Dvorak, Digizone reports that while the regulator is now legally entitled to do so following a recent amendment to the Electronic Communications Act, the forcible removal of frequencies would lead to litigation that could last up to four years.

The fourth DTT multiplex has been relatively underused compared to the first three until now, effectively operating on a trial basis.

However, the stations RTA and TV7 have expressed an interest in joining it, having previously failed to reach an agreement with the Czech Digital Group (CDG) to secure carriage on the third multiplex.
